The largest human organ, our skin, protects us from the outside world. It is our first line of defense against germs, chemicals, and a myriad of hosts who would otherwise invade our body, including Mosquitoes. Our skin is our protector, so shouldn’t you be protecting it with the best skin care products?
Darker Side of Commercial Spray Repellent
Traditional mosquito sprays contain DEET as a very successful deterrent, yet the side effects of exposure to DEET can be quite startling, including birth defects, muscle control loss, psychedelic experiences and dermal rashes according to the CDC incident report (HTML LINK: http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/consultations/deet/health-effects.html).
Skip the DEET and make your own mosquito fighting repellent.
Your Organic Skin Care Solution: DIY Mosquito Repellent Instructions.
Fill spray bottle (8oz) 1/2 full with distilled or boiled water
Add witch hazel to fill almost to the top
Add 1/2 tsp vegetable glycerin if using (I personally do not use).
Add 30-50 drops of essential oils to desired scent. The more oils you use, the stronger the spray will be.
My personal favorite mix is: Rosemary, Clove, Cajeput, Lavender, Cinnamon and Eucalyptus
