After a long winter, soaking in the summer sun can offer a healthy dose of Vitamin D. Users beware, too much sun can also be a recipe for skin damage. Avoid commercial sunscreens and make your next batch of skin protection at home with this recipe.
1/2 oz. beeswax pastilles
1/4 c. shea butter
1/4 c. coconut oil
2 tbsp Zinc Oxide Powder
Combine the shea butter and coconut oil in a double boiler (you can just put a glass bowl over a saucepan with boiling water) and melt down. Once melted add the beeswax and stir until it is melted as well. Remove from heat and pour into another bowl. Blend with a hand blender on medium and slowly add in the 2 tbsp zinc powder. Blend until well combined and there are no clumps. You can transfer it into a jar now. Let cool to room temperature and you have sunscreen! Store in a cool, dark place for up to 1 month. I store mine in my pantry. X
